Chapter 13 - Ben

I should have stopped caring about her. I didn’t know why I cared about her in the first place. She was nothing but trouble wrapped in danger. But I did care and I couldn’t stop. I shook my head, unable to turn around and leave. There was nothing in my mind except Laurel. She consumed me.

“No.”

“What do you mean?” she asked.

I was the cause of the tears in her eyes and it was ripping my heart to shreds. I covered the few feet between us and placed my hands on her shoulders. “I won’t stop caring about you. I can’t.”

She closed her eyes and relaxed against me as I leaned down to kiss her. Our lips collided and what was meant to be a tender apology became a wild tangle.
